IFTA - International Fuel Tax Agreement

As per each member jurisdiction regulation, if a carrier is a qualified IFTA licensee and does not require to participate in the IFTA program must obtain the trip permits from each IFTA member jurisdiction on which the vehicle travels.

Should I register for the IFTA in my state?

IFTA is the International Fuel Tax Agreement signed by the United States and the 10 Canadian Provinces bordering the US to lessen the burden of the truckers in fuel reporting.
A motor vehicle is considered as a qualified vehicle under the following standards:

  • Traveled in at least one or more IFTA jurisdictions
  • Heavy vehicles with three or more axles or used in combination exceeding 26,000 pounds or
    11,797 kilograms.

Recreational vehicles are not considered as a qualified Motor Vehicle unless used for business purposes.
